Briton pardoned in Sudan Islam insult

By ALFRED de MONTESQUIOU, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 46 minutes ago

KHARTOUM, Sudan - A British teacher jailed for insulting Islam after allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad was released Monday when Sudan’s president pardoned her, a British Embassy spokesman said.

The teacher, Gillian Gibbons, said she did not intend to offend anyone and had great respect for Islam.

“She is in British Embassy custody and is with the deputy British ambassador,” embassy spokesman Omar Daair said. He would not give her exact location or say when she would leave Sudan.

Gibbons, 54, was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation for insulting Islam because she allowed her students to name a class teddy bear Muhammad, seen as a reference to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. Her time in jail since her arrest Nov. 25 counted toward the sentence.

The teacher’s conviction under Sudan’s Islamic Sharia law shocked Britons and many Muslims worldwide. It also inflamed passions among many Sudanese, some of whom called for her execution. Continued.

Due to server issues mine and all other Conservablogs hosted sites had been down for the prior two days. I am thrilled to say we are back up and running. Thank God. And thank you for your patience. I apologize for the inconvenience.

To get back into the swing of things, here is a quick roundup for y’all to chew on.

Cops getting squeeze from both sides on immigration

The declaration in the past week by Tucson police that they no longer would call immigration officials to schools and churches put one controversy to rest.
But it left a plethora of questions about a policy that gives broad discretion to officers in dealing with illegal entrants.
Dueling protests were held last week, showing the lingering dissatisfaction on both sides of the immigration debate about such a policy.

Be sure to vote in the poll on the right of article.

Should Tucson Police help enforce immigration law?
Yes 77 %
No 22 %
Not Sure 1 %
Total number of votes 6178

Hmm…
Now for some juicy Hillary news. H/T Larwyn.
Clinton Booed at Heartland Forum

The senator was asked if she would “make a decision to give undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship” during her first 100 days in office. Clinton responded saying, “I have been favoring a plan to citizenship for years. I voted for it in the Senate, I have spoke out about it around Iowa and the country and in my campaign. And as president comprehensive immigration reform will be a high priority for me.”

Soft booing could be heard from the audience. The man repeated his question about the first 100 days. Clinton replied, “Well you’ve to get congress to pass the legislation and the president to do as much as possible, which I will do.” Louder boos came from the crowd.

Did you know that President George W. Bush has authorized the creation of a United States Postal Stamp that honors Islam? Did you also know that it will be released in the U.S.A. on Christmas Day, 2007? Well, now you do.
Adding salt to the wound the decision was to release it on of all days, Christmas Day?!
I say scrap that little project all together. And for good measure, can the Kwanzaa stamp while they are at it.

In case you are curious what the UN has on it’s agenda…
The UN Climate Summit will begin in Bali tomorrow.
Carbon footprint fears for UN climate summit

The United Nations climate change conference that begins on the tropical island of Bali tomorrow is likely itself to be a significant contributor to global warming, despite attempts to “offset” its emissions.
The 15,000 politicians, civil servants, green and industry lobbyists and journalists who will fly in are estimated to emit the equivalent of more than 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the annual emissions of the African state of Chad.

Isn’t that a hum dinger?
No worries they have the situation under control. They will off set their carbon feet prints by dressing casual.

In a note on its website, the UNFCCC hoped that the dress code “will allow participants to conduct discussions in a more comfortable environment, as well as limit the use of air conditioning and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions”.

There now. I feel much better. Don’t you? /sarc

Have a great Sunday evening all!

Feeding Frenzy

November 30th, 2007 · 8 Comments

For the love of God. The psychosis fueled savage barbaric Cult of Islam must be stopped! It’s adherents must suffer from a collective mental illness. There is no other explanation for it. It causes a mob mentality feeding frenzy at the drop of a hat.

Perhaps it could be partially linked to the long history of inbreeding…

Mob calls for execution of teddy teacher as peer launches rescue mission

gillian-gibbons-mob-execution-sudan1_248292a.jpg

Thousands of Sudanese men, many armed with clubs and knives, protested in Khartoum today calling for the execution of the British teacher who allowed a teddy bear to be called Mohamed.

The protesters emerged from Khartoum’s

mosques < — monumental clue!

after Friday prayers and gathered outside the presidential palace shouting slogans against Gillian Gibbons as riot police looked on.

The rowdy scenes took place as it emerged that a senior Labour peer was launching a private rescue mission to try to secure the early release of the 54-year-old teacher.

Ms Gibbons was sentenced to 15 days in jail after being convicted of inciting religious hatred for letting her pupils at one of the city’s schools name a toy bear Mohamed.

Lord Ahmed, Britain’s first Muslim peer, is due to fly out to Khartoum this afternoon, raising hopes that the mother of two, from Liverpool, could be freed soon.

Some protesters taunted Western journalists by drawing a finger across their throats while others burnt newspapers that carried pictures of Ms Gibbons on the front page. The scenes in Martyrs Square, outside the palace, were becoming increasingly ugly.

When The Times attempted to report on the demonstration, thought to be organized by extremists who were whipping up anti-Western feelings, its reporter was threatened and forced to leave the area. Continued.

Update: Respect, Religion, and the Teddy Bear @ de-conversion

I leave A.C. Grayling to conclude:

… all who have secure grounds for their views should not be afraid of robust challenge and criticism ; if they are confident in their views they should be able to shrug off satire and mockery. The more insecure people are, the less confident they feel, the less mature their outlook is, the angrier they are made by what they label as ‘offence’ to their religious sensitivities - even to the point of violence. They undermine and refute themselves thus. (p.9 in Grayling, A.C. (2007) Against All Gods. London: Oberon Books.)

- A Thinking Man

I have had argued this point with a Muslim blogger. I of course was told that if Christians do not become offended and outraged at what could be construed as blasphemous. Then our faith must be weak. I replied that no that is not the case our faith is strong but I/we do not expect all to respect our religion to the level of which some Muslims display. They on the other hand as stated in the above A.C. Grayling quote must be the insecure ones. Islam must indeed be fragile for it’s followers to go to such lengths as calling for the death of a non-muslim when respect is not shown as they expect..nay demand. Quite telling, quite frustrating, and quite transparent to those looking in from the outside.

Jerusalem: Archaeologists Discover Ancient Biblical Wall

November 29th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I love this sort of thing. Historical proof. What wonderful news to hear during the Christmas season.

Israeli says elusive biblical wall found

JERUSALEM - A wall mentioned in the Bible’s Book of Nehemiah and long sought by archaeologists apparently has been found, an Israeli archaeologist says.

A team of archaeologists discovered the wall in Jerusalem’s ancient City of David during a rescue attempt on a tower that was in danger of collapse, said Eilat Mazar, head of the Institute of Archaeology at the Shalem Center, a Jerusalem-based research and educational institute, and leader of the dig.

Artifacts including pottery shards and arrowheads found under the tower suggested that both the tower and the nearby wall are from the 5th century B.C., the time of Nehemiah, Mazar said this week. Scholars previously thought the wall dated to the Hasmonean period from about 142 B.C. to 37 B.C.

The findings suggest that the structure was actually part of the same city wall the Bible says Nehemiah rebuilt, Mazar said. The Book of Nehemiah gives a detailed description of construction of the walls, destroyed earlier by the Babylonians. Continued.

When will “THEY” get it?

Lest we forget…

Friday, May 10, 2002
BETHLEHEM, West Bank — The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem reeked of urine and was strewn with dirty pots and pans, leftover food and mattresses Friday afternoon, but emerged with little permanent damage as the 39-day siege ended with Israel pulling its forces out of the city.

Journalists touring the basilica, one of Christianity’s holiest shrines, saw two wooden altars in the Armenian section and a marble baptismal covered with leftover food and dirty dishes

Bully for them…

Report: Hamas urges UN to rescind decision that made Israel a state
It is not shameful to correct a mistake. Palestine is Arab-Islamic land from the river to the sea, including Jerusalem, and Jews have no place there,” the radio quoted a Hamas statement as saying.

I think not!

…And for the record. I have had it with Condoleezza Rice.

Oh and did you all hear of this?

Bush: We are all Terrorists now @ Atlas Shrugs

Bush has lost his mind and his moral compass. This statement is an outrage. A lie and a blood libel. Israel has never committed any acts of terrorism. What a tool of Islamic jihad. Based on that, Bush is a terrorist, anyone that defends himself, his family, his country is a terrorist.
This is a sad sad day.

Good night and God Bless.
